Alden and the Light That Blinked Back
By Dr. Brandon Croud
A gentle story of friendly contact and intuition — a beautifully illustrated children's book that opens young hearts to wonder, trust, and the quiet wisdom that lives within all of us.
Alden and the Light That Blinked Back
A gentle bedtime story about curiosity, intuition, and meeting the unknown with calm confidence.
What if the unknown didn't have to feel frightening?
When young Alden notices a tiny light blinking in the night sky, he doesn't feel scared — he feels curious. With his dad nearby and a warm, steady feeling in his chest, Alden begins to understand something important: not everything unfamiliar is dangerous. Sometimes, it's simply different.
This beautifully illustrated bedtime picture book gently introduces children to the power of inner knowing — that quiet, calm feeling that helps them feel safe, even when they don't have all the answers. Through soft imagery and reassuring language, children are encouraged to trust their feelings, ask thoughtful questions, and approach life with wonder instead of worry.
While written for ages 3–7, this story often resonates just as deeply with adults. Parents and caregivers may find themselves reflecting on their own relationship with fear, intuition, and curiosity — making it a meaningful shared reading experience.

Why I Wrote the Book
This book really started with my son, Alden.
From a very early age, he has been fascinated by the moon. If you could see the excitement on his face when he spots it in the sky, even if he's seen it a hundred times before, it's one of the most incredible things for me to witness as his dad.
As I went through my own spiritual awakening, I started looking at that curiosity differently. Alden didn't need someone to teach him to be curious or tell him there might be more to the world than what he could see. That wonder was already there.
I wanted to create a bedtime story inspired by the real conversations Alden and I have had, while also giving parents a way to have some of those same conversations with their own children.
At its heart, Alden and the Light That Blinked Back is about learning to trust that quiet feeling inside of you, allowing a child's intuition to develop naturally, and approaching the unknown with curiosity instead of immediately teaching them to fear it.
I don't want to tell children what they should believe. I want them to know it's okay to wonder. It's okay to ask questions. It's okay to trust how something feels while still being curious about what it might mean.
This book is one of the things I am most proud of creating, but the credit really belongs to Alden.
He's the little boy who cracked his dad wide open and reminded me how incredible it is to look at the world with wonder again.
